My Employment Background
Before receiving my school psychology certification, I spent several years working in various community mental health programs, primarily focusing on refining my skills with children and adolescents. In August 1997, I accepted my first job as a School Psychologist with Lincoln Intermediate Unit No. 12 (LIU) in New Oxford, PA. My role there was initially to provide school psychology services to local districts and support to special education programs, such as autism support, emotional support, neurological impairment support, and learning support. At LIU, I was given opportunities to expand my training in neuropsychology, crisis response, and school-based mental health. I was invited to join the school neuropsychological and preschool clinics, where I provided specialized evaluation services with a team of professionals. In addition, I led the development and implementation of the LIU School Crisis Response Team.
I left LIU to complete my predoctoral internship in 2003 and then returned part-time in 2004, where I continued to provide neuropsychological evaluations, school-based mental health, and clinical services. In July 2004, I also accepted a position as a Clinical Instructor and Director of Training and Field Experience for the School Psychology Program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) to obtain postdoctoral supervision. In July 2005, I was promoted at PCOM to Assistant Professor and Director of the Educational Specialist Program in School Psychology. At the time, I also began assisting in coordinating the STEPPS Program (Systems of Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving). This standardized patient program at PCOM allows one to observe and evaluate a student’s clinical skills in a safe environment to provide meaningful feedback to help develop clinical skills.
In July 2007, I returned to practice, and I decreased my role at PCOM to part-time as a Clinical Assistant Professor and then an Adjunct Faculty Member, which I continued until 2019. At the time, I also accepted a position as a psychologist with South Middleton School District in Boiling Springs, PA, where I had the opportunity to further my work with school-based mental health and develop a doctoral internship program. In 2009, I was given an opportunity to begin teaching in an online clinical psychology program for a national university as a Core Faculty Member
In 2009, I opened Cognitive Health Solutions, LLC (CHS) in Hanover, PA. What began as a small part-time clinical practice evolved into a multidisciplinary practice. As CHS grew, I took a break from academia and focused all my time and energy on CHS. I remain involved at CHS as the founding President. However, I am now providing all clinical services through my independent practice, and I continue to teach.
