My Education

I earned my Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology from the California University of Pennsylvania (now Pennsylvania Western University, California) in 1994. As part of my undergraduate training, I completed an internship at the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Waynesburg, which provided my first clinical experience. I remained at California University Pennsylvania to complete a Master of Science (MS) degree and certification in School Psychology in 1997. I worked as a school psychology intern at the Uniontown Area School District.

After my training in school psychology and a few years in the field, I returned to education to earn a second Master of Science (MS) degree and a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM; now The PCOM School of Professional and Applied Psychology). My training at PCOM expanded my skills in working with adult populations and furthered my work with children and adolescents. My areas of specialization in training at PCOM included cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), neuropsychology, and behavioral medicine. In addition to the clinical opportunities obtained at PCOM, I completed practicum experiences at The Steven’s Center in Carlisle, PA, and Keystone Family Services in Harrisburg, PA.

My Clinical Internship

As part of my doctoral training, I completed a 2000 predoctoral clinical psychology internship in the APA-Accredited program at the Milton Hershey School Department of Health and Wellness in Hershey, PA.

My Postdoctoral Work

After completing my Psy.D., I obtained my postdoctoral supervision at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). I worked as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychology and provided services in the Center for Brief Therapy (CBT). I received postdoctoral supervision in clinical psychology at PCOM with Dr. Robert DiTomasso, Ph.D. In addition, I held a part-time postdoctoral position at Lincoln Intermediate Unit No. 12 (LIU) in New Oxford, PA, where I obtained additional postdoctoral supervision in neuropsychological testing with neuropsychologist Dr. Sheree Contres, Psy.D..

My Employment Background

Before receiving my school psychology certification, I spent several years working in various community mental health programs, primarily focusing on refining my skills with children and adolescents. In August 1997, I accepted my first job as a School Psychologist with Lincoln Intermediate Unit No. 12 (LIU) in New Oxford, PA. My role there was initially to provide school psychology services to local districts and support to special education programs, such as autism support, emotional support, neurological impairment support, and learning support. At LIU, I was given opportunities to expand my training in neuropsychology, crisis response, and school-based mental health. I was invited to join the school neuropsychological and preschool clinics, where I provided specialized evaluation services with a team of professionals. In addition, I led the development and implementation of the LIU School Crisis Response Team.

I left LIU to complete my predoctoral internship in 2003 and then returned part-time in 2004, where I continued to provide neuropsychological evaluations, school-based mental health, and clinical services. In July 2004, I also accepted a position as a Clinical Instructor and Director of Training and Field Experience for the School Psychology Program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) to obtain postdoctoral supervision. In July 2005, I was promoted at PCOM to Assistant Professor and Director of the Educational Specialist Program in School Psychology. At the time, I also began assisting in coordinating the STEPPS Program (Systems of Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving). This standardized patient program at PCOM allows one to observe and evaluate a student’s clinical skills in a safe environment to provide meaningful feedback to help develop clinical skills.

In July 2007, I returned to practice, and I decreased my role at PCOM to part-time as a Clinical Assistant Professor and then an Adjunct Faculty Member, which I continued until 2019. At the time, I also accepted a position as a psychologist with South Middleton School District in Boiling Springs, PA, where I had the opportunity to further my work with school-based mental health and develop a doctoral internship program. In 2009, I was given an opportunity to begin teaching in an online clinical psychology program for a national university as a Core Faculty Member

In 2009, I opened Cognitive Health Solutions, LLC (CHS) in Hanover, PA. What began as a small part-time clinical practice evolved into a multidisciplinary practice. As CHS grew, I took a break from academia and focused all my time and energy on CHS. I remain involved at CHS as the founding President. However, I am now providing all clinical services through my independent practice, and I continue to teach.
